Dominance, Drama & Doubles: Full Recap of the 2025 Zimmer Biomet APP New York City Open

The 2025 Zimmer Biomet APP New York City Open brought elite pickleball to the Big Apple over Memorial Day weekend, from Wednesday, May 21 to Saturday, May 24. Set against the iconic backdrop of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, the event was filled with unpredictable weather, thrilling matches, record-breaking performances, and unforgettable moments that shook up the tour rankings.

Let’s dive into everything that went down — from debut breakthroughs to double gold wins.

☔ A Rainy Start, But Championship Saturday Delivered

Due to rain, Wednesday and Thursday matches were moved indoors to the Queens College tennis center, with no live streaming available. Fortunately, Friday saw limited action at the outdoor venue despite intermittent showers, and Championship Saturday turned out to be the best weather — and competition — of the entire weekend.

🎾 Women’s Singles: Sofia Sewing Secures Her #1 Spot

Sofia Sewing kicked off Championship Saturday in style. Just six months ago, she was grinding through qualifiers — now, she’s the undisputed #1 seed on the APP Tour, and she proved it in NYC.

  • Record: 4 matches won, 1 game lost across 9 played
  • Final Result: Defeated Nicole Eugenio 15-12, 16-14
  • Impact: This was her 4th title in 2025, and with the NYC Open being a major, she earned 1.5x the ranking points, securing her hold on the top spot.

🥇 Gold – Sofia Sewing
🥈 Silver – Nicole Eugenio (first Championship Saturday appearance)
🥉 Bronze – Katerina Stewart

🏓 Men’s Singles: Armaan Bhatia Wins a 27-25 Epic

The Men’s Singles bracket was pure chaos — and we loved every second of it.

After #2 seed Grayson Goldin retired due to injury and #1 seed Chris Haworth was upset by Alex Crum, it came down to Bhatia vs. Crum in the final.

  • Game 1: Bhatia 15-10
  • Game 2: Bhatia 27-25 (!), in the most jaw-dropping rally-scoring final of the year

This was Bhatia’s first gold medal on the APP Tour after winning silver in Cincinnati and bronze in NYC Men’s Doubles earlier in the season.

🥇 Gold – Armaan Bhatia
🥈 Silver – Alex Crum (also his first Championship Saturday appearance)
🥉 Bronze – Ronan Camron

👊 Men’s Doubles: Munro and Schenk Rally for Gold

Jack Munro has now won gold at every APP Tour event in 2025 — this time with a twist. His usual partner, Will Howells, was competing in Major League Pickleball, so Munro teamed up with Aiden Schenk, a fellow young gun on the APP U.S. National Team.

After dropping Game 1 in the final to Thomas Yu and Len Yang (both first-time finalists), Munro and Schenk roared back:

  • 11-4, 5-11, 7-11 for the comeback win

🥇 Gold – Jack Munro / Aiden Schenk
🥈 Silver – Thomas Yu / Len Yang
🥉 Bronze – Ronan Camron / Armaan Bhatia

💥 Mixed Doubles: Fudge and Munro’s Second Title in 2025

The chemistry between Megan Fudge and Jack Munro is unmatched. The duo claimed their second gold of the season (the first was in Daytona) with an intense run through a stacked bracket.

  • Three of their four matches went to a deciding third game
  • Their semifinal win over Livornese/Bohnert was razor-thin: 12-10, 11-9
  • In the final, they beat the rising pair of Chris Haworth and Amanda Hendry: 11-7, 8-11, 11-8

🥇 Gold – Megan Fudge / Jack Munro
🥈 Silver – Amanda Hendry / Chris Haworth (his first pro doubles final)
🥉 Bronze – Bobbi Oshiro / Randy Blanco

👑 Women’s Doubles: Oshiro & Harris Go All the Way

In just their first tournament together, Bobbi Oshiro and Allison Harris went on a Cinderella run.

  • Upset #1 seeds Braverman/Fudge in the semis: 11-8, 11-6
  • Defeated a battle-tested Newell/Cederquist in the final: 11-2, 11-9

Oshiro has now medaled with four different partners in 2025 — a true display of adaptability and talent.

🥇 Gold – Bobbi Oshiro / Allison Harris
🥈 Silver – Yana Newell / Emily Cederquist
🥉 Bronze – Jill Braverman / Megan Fudge
