Mary Brascia and Lea Jansen, the top two seeds in women’s singles, demonstrated their exceptional skill and dominance, effortlessly advancing to Championship Sunday without dropping a single game. Their impressive performance in the lead-up to the final match has set the stage for an exciting showdown between the two top players.
Brascia Avenges Previous Defeat
In a semifinal rematch against Kaitlyn Christian, top-seeded Brascia sought revenge for her previous quarterfinal loss in California. She started strong, taking Game 1 with an impressive 11-4 score.
Although Christian fought back, leading 7-2 in Game 2, Brascia regained control, utilizing an aggressive running serve that forced numerous return errors from her opponent. This tactical move helped her overcome the deficit and secure the win.
“Everyone is so good, so anything you can do to level up your game is important,” Brascia shared her thoughts while talking to pickleballtv. “I’ve been working on more of a running serve, and I like it, so I’m gonna keep trying to do it in matches.”
Jansen’s Impressive Form
In the second semifinal, Lea Jansen, the No. 3 seed, delivered a dominant performance, easily routing No. 16 seed Jorja Johnson. This impressive display was no surprise to Jansen, who has played incredibly well throughout the tournament, perhaps the best we’ve seen in her career.
The stage is set for a thrilling finale on Sunday as top seeds Mary Brascia and Lea Jansen face off in the championship match. This will be their second encounter in 2024, and if their previous meeting at the Desert Ridge Open is any indication, pickleball enthusiasts are in for an electrifying showdown.
