Amid the rising popularity of pickleball worldwide, a California-based non-profit organization is hosting a tournament with a remarkable prize pool of $5,000 in Bitcoin. The event is scheduled for October 18 in Santa Monica, California, during the Peer to Pier Bitcoin Festival.
With the rapid growth of pickleball as a sport, it’s only a matter of time before it surpasses many traditional sports. Its accessibility and increasing number of global events are key factors in this expansion. Next month, Santa Monica, California, will host an exciting pickleball tournament that stands out for its unique prize structure.
This tournament will feature a total prize pool of $5,000 in Bitcoin, marking the first-time winners and participants will receive cryptocurrency as a reward. While lucrative awards are common in pickleball, this cryptocurrency prize is unique. Recently, top player Anna Leigh Waters noted that she expects to earn nearly $3 million from her on-field earnings and endorsements.
The Proof of Workforce Foundation, a Santa Monica-based non-profit, has partnered with Bitcoin financial services company Fold and Pickle Pop to organize this innovative tournament. Set to take place on October 18 during the Peer to Pier Bitcoin Festival, this event promises to be a groundbreaking moment for pickleball enthusiasts.
Players will have the chance to win Bitcoin hardware wallet devices provided by CoinKite. “This will be an incredible event, bringing together two vibrant and rapidly growing communities—Bitcoiners and pickleball enthusiasts—to support the creative reuse of commercial space on the Third Street Promenade,” said Dom Bei, founder of Proof of Workforce.
In addition, the Proof of Workforce Foundation has partnered with the City of Santa Monica to launch the Santa Monica Bitcoin Office, marking a pioneering initiative for any city in the United States.
