Sonic Drive-in in Canton pioneers eatertainment with unique pickleball courts

Sonic Drive-In, a beloved fast food chain known for its sweet beverages, refreshing treats, and classic American dishes, has made an exciting addition to its Canton location, just an hour outside Dallas. This Sonic not only serves up delicious food but also boasts three publicly accessible pickleball courts.

If you haven’t heard, pickleball has become a national sensation over the past few years. By 2023, there were over 10,000 pickleball courts across the United States, and now, three of them can be found at Sonic Drive-In in Canton, Texas.

Opened last summer, this Sonic is the first of its kind to integrate pickleball courts into its facilities, offering a unique blend of food and fun for visitors.

Situated at 177 W State Hwy 243, the Sonic Drive-In in Canton features three permanent pickleball courts, complete with nets and lighting for evening play—reservations can be made through the CourtReserve app.

In addition to the courts, the venue offers a covered seating area and a playground for kids, making it a great spot for families.

“We are thrilled to have this new addition to our community. Join us in celebrating their opening day by stopping by for some snacks and a drink!” said the Canton EDC.

The idea of merging dining with activities and attractions isn’t exactly new, but the term “eatertainment” has gained traction in recent years. While we often see this concept in various press releases, it’s still uncommon to find a popular fast food spot that combines an activity like pickleball with its offerings—beyond perhaps a playground at a local McDonald’s.

Sonic’s choice to introduce a pickleball facility at its Canton location is an innovative brand activation that could pave the way for similar experiences at fast food restaurants across the country. For now, however, the pickleball facility at this Texas Sonic is the only one of its kind in the nation.
