Johnson and Frazier Claim Men’s Doubles Title
JW Johnson and Dylan Frazier, the No. 2 seeds, defeated Hayden Patriquin and Pablo Tellez, the No. 5 seeds, to win the men’s doubles title at the Select Medical Orange County Cup presented by FitVine Wine. The score was 11-7, 11-7, 11-6.
Johnson and Frazier’s clinical performance cooled off their opponents, who had been on a hot streak after upsetting the top-seeded Johns brothers in the quarterfinals.
Frazier and Johnson Celebrate Title and New Rankings
JW Johnson and Dylan Frazier, the champions of the Select Medical Orange County Cup, praised their opponents, Hayden Patriquin and Pablo Tellez, for their impressive run as a new partnership. Frazier acknowledged the tough match, saying, “They had some really good wins and played super tough, so we had to bring our best stuff out there.”
This victory marks Johnson and Frazier’s fifth title of 2024 and a significant milestone for Frazier, who will now surpass Ben Johns to become the top-ranked player in PPA men’s. Johnson will also move up to No. 3 in the world, overtaking Collin Johns.
Frazier expressed his gratitude, saying, “It’s an honor and a privilege to hold that title… I couldn’t do it with anyone else next to me except for J-Dub.” He acknowledged the team effort and was thrilled to finally achieve this goal.
In the bronze medal match, Tyson McGuffin and Dekel Bar defeated Julian Arnold and Jack Munro, securing a 11-9, 8-11, 11-2 victory.
