Etta Wright and Ben Johns have emerged again victorious, claiming their second mixed doubles title this month. In a thrilling match, they defeated Anna Bright and James Ignatowich in four games, showcasing their exceptional skills and teamwork.
Despite losing the first game, the top-seeded duo raised their level of play significantly, with Wright’s aggressive strategy on the right side paying off. Her impressive winners, including an erne winner and an around-the-post winner, set the tone for their three victorious games.
The final score was 12-14, 11-7, 11-8, 11-1 capping off an exciting encounter. This title holds special significance for Wright, a crowd favorite and Utah native, who expressed her gratitude for playing in front of her home crowd and family members. She also praised her partner, Ben Johns, the “GOAT of pickleball.”
“It’s awesome to play in front of the home crowd and in front of some family members,” she said while talking to pickleballtv. “I’m also just honored to play with Ben, the GOAT of pickleball. I’m really fortunate and grateful.”
