CRBN-3X Power Series
It was difficult to choose between the CRBN-3X and the JOOLA Perseus as my favorite paddle of 2024. My bag always contains these two paddles. Having both paddles in my bag allows me to adapt to different opponents and playing conditions, which ensures I’m always prepared.
Compared to the JOOLA Perseus, the CRBN-3X offers great power, spin, and control. A slightly larger sweet spot and more power are the distinguishing features of the JOOLA Perseus. In my opinion, if you’re looking for more control with less pop, then the CRBN-3X is an excellent option.

Is the 3X Right for You?
I highly recommend the CRBN 3X to intermediate players alongside the Vatic Pro Flash. It offers a sweet spot between power and control, ideal for developing a more aggressive playing style. As a thermoformed carbon paddle with exceptional forgiveness and control, it makes an excellent choice for individuals of all skill levels.
CRBN started the raw carbon trend in the pickleball paddle industry, and in 2024, I tested over 30 raw carbon pickleball paddles. Out of all, 3x power is the best. You should try CRBN 3X, especially if you are undecided on whether to use the power-focused 1X or the control-oriented 2X.
Features
The 3X Power series paddle has been redesigned to make the sweet spot bigger, making your shots more consistent and easier to control. It features a carbon fiber face for power and durability, a foam-injected core for a large sweet spot, and a comfortable grip for long rallies. Unlike other paddles, it’s built as one solid piece, making it more robust and responsive. Overall, it’s an excellent choice for players who want a reliable and easy-to-use paddle for pickleball.
- T700 Toray Carbon Fiber Surface: This high-quality carbon fiber face provides unmatched durability and industry-leading spin and dwell time. The textured surface also helps you grip the ball for more control over your shots.
- Reinforced Unibody Construction: The paddle is made from a single piece of carbon fiber, reducing weak points and increasing power and pop.
- Fortified Handle: The ergonomic grip is reinforced with carbon fiber to reduce vibration and increase hand and paddle speed at the net.
- Massive Sweet Spot: The redesigned internal composition creates a more prominent sweet spot for more consistent shots, even if you don’t hit the ball perfectly in the center.
- Foam-Injected Edge Walls: The paddle has foam injected around the edges, which helps to reduce vibration and expand the sweet spot.
- Available in two core thicknesses: The paddle is available in two core thicknesses, 14mm and 16mm. The 14mm core is lighter and provides more control, while the 16mm core is heavier and more powerful.
Design and feel
The CRBN 3X Power series pickleball paddle has a solid feel thanks to its carbon fiber face and foam core. Some manufacturers attach their handles to a paddle face separately, which results in a weak joint at the neck of the paddle, which allows the paddle to flex and finally break into pieces.
CRBN 3x is manufactured as a uni design, one solid piece with carbon fiber from the face to the handle. This makes the paddle stronger and more responsive and ensures it lasts longer. Plus, you get a more comfortable grip with this design.
In my opinion, right from the start, I felt the paddle was excellent in my hands. It struck a perfect balance, being heavy enough to generate significant power for impactful shots yet light enough to ensure I stayed ahead during rapid exchanges near the kitchen.
Performance
The CRBN 3X Power Series is a high-performance pickleball paddle designed for aggressive players seeking maximum power and a large sweet spot. It’s part of CRBN’s Power Series, built with the same durable, gritty carbon fiber face known for exceptional responsiveness.
- Power: The CRBN 3X is known for its powerful shots, making it ideal for aggressive players who like to take control of rallies. This is due to the combination of the raw carbon fiber surface and the core thickness options (14mm for more power, 16mm for more control).
- Control: Despite its power focus, the 3X still offers reasonable control thanks to the more prominent sweet spot and the option of the thicker core. This allows for precise shot placement and touch shots when needed.
- Spin: The raw carbon fiber surface texture helps generate spin on the ball, allowing for more control and deception in your shots.
- Large sweet spot: The large sweet spot provides forgiveness on off-center hits, making it easier to maintain consistency in your game.
- Lightweight: Weighing around 7.8 to 8.1 ounces, the CRBN 3X is easily maneuverable and allows for faster swing speeds.
Value for Money
Crbn 3X stands out for its superior control and plush feel, making it a premium choice. It has been engineered to enhance an intermediate player’s game significantly. The paddle’s features and construction are tailored to elevate gameplay, offering an edge in performance and comfort.
However, alternatives like the Vatic Pro Flash and Onix z5 present attractive options for those on a tighter budget. Both alternatives offer commendable performance at approximately 40% less cost than the 3X. These paddles balance affordability and functionality, making them appealing choices for players seeking quality within budget.
This paddle is fantastic. I can not find faults with this paddle – it hits hard, spins a lot, and gives good control for all kinds of play. I use it every week and recommend it to other players like me.

- Core thickness: 14 mm or 16 mm (0.55″ or 0.63″)

Who suits this paddle
This paddle isn’t suitable for beginners or even some early intermediate players because the spot where you hit the ball best is a bit small, which is tricky for beginners.
But if you’re a big fan of JOOLA, you’ll love it. It feels like the Ben Johns Hyperion CFS without feeling heavy at the top, making it faster during quick exchanges near the net.
Features
JOOLA upgraded this paddle by keeping the good parts from the Hyperion and adding thermoformed engineering. They changed the surface from “carbon friction” to “charged carbon.” Unfortunately, it spins a bit less than some other paddles they make.
The cool part of the paddle, which I like, is that they built it with a “fully encased carbon” design (aka unibody). As we see, most carbon paddles are coming with this technology, making it feel more powerful and less likely to break than the old Hyperion. Here are some of its key features:
- Charged Carbon Surface Technology: This new technology increases power and pop while producing more precise shots.
- Sweetspot Optimization: The sweet spot on the paddle has been optimized to expand the optimal hitting area and enhance your connection to the paddle, so you are always in command of your game.
- Carbon Friction Textured Surface: This surface helps you generate more spin on the ball, which can be helpful for both offensive and defensive shots.
- Fully encased in Carbon for Durability: The JOOLA Ben Johns Perseus is made with a carbon fiber paddle that offers extreme strength and stability. It can withstand aggressive play and keeps the paddle consistent throughout its lifespan.
- Reactive Honeycomb Core: This core is designed to balance power and control well.
- Feel-Tec Pure Grip: This grip is comfortable and provides a good feel for the paddle.
- USAPA Approved: This paddle meets all of the USAPA’s specifications for tournament play.
Design and feel
The Perseus has a slightly elongated shape compared to other paddles, which helps to increase its swing weight and power. The Perseus comes with JOOLA’s Feel-Tec Pure Grip, a comfortable, moisture-wicking grip that provides a good feel for the paddle. The improved grip on the Perseus made me feel a lot more comfortable. It’s gray, not white, so it won’t get dirty. The color of the paddle features a sleek black design with blue accents. The Perseus looks good, with Ben Johns’ unique signature design and cool pops of light blue color.
The Perseus is available in two weights: 16mm and 14mm. The 16mm paddle is slightly heavier and more powerful, while the 14mm paddle is lighter and more maneuverable.
Performance
The JOOLA Perseus paddle is designed for aggressive, offensive pickleball players and is endorsed by the world’s #1 ranked player, Ben Johns. Here’s a breakdown of its performance features:
- Power and pop: Thanks to the Charged Carbon surface technology, the paddle offers a strong energy return, resulting in powerful shots with a crisp feel.
- Control: Despite being a power paddle, the Perseus offers surprisingly good control. This is due to a combination of factors, including a soft feel and a large sweet spot, which helps with accuracy even on off-center hits.
- Maneuverability: I feel this paddle is light and fast in my hands, so you can easily add the grip and customize it according to your requirements. Its lightweight ( 8.0 oz) paddle with a low swing weight makes it easy to handle and maneuver quickly. This is especially beneficial for volleys, drives, and other fast-paced exchanges.
- Spin: The Carbon Friction textured surface on the paddle face helps generate maximum spin, allowing you to place the ball more precisely and improve your overall game control.
Value for money
For JOOLA fans who love their paddles and want a step up from the Hyperion, the Perseus could be a significant investment. It offers a similar feel but with some potential upgrades. However, if you’re looking for maximum spin and are short on budget, I highly recommend Diadem Edge 18k which is my favorite for spin.
The JOOLA Perseus is a top control paddle with enough spin and power for well-rounded gameplay, but its price tag might be a hurdle for some people. Fans of JOOLA and the Hyperion might find it a worthy upgrade, but competitors like CRBN-3X offer similar performance at affordable prices. Notably, the pickleball champion Ben Johns switched to the Perseus in 2023, potentially boosting its appeal for JOOLA loyalists.

Considering its price point and the features it offers, the Vatic Pro PRISM Flash can be considered good value for money, especially for beginner and intermediate players who prioritize control and comfort. You will receive a high-performance paddle that is comparable to the JOOLA Perseus and Dbd in terms of control, spin, and power in Just 100 Doller.

Dominate the court with explosive power and pinpoint precision. The PCKL Pro Series 16 is the perfect paddle for aggressive players who crave an edge. This premium performance paddle is meticulously crafted to deliver unmatched control and powerful spin at a very reasonable price.
Who it suits:
The PCKL Pro Series 16 pickleball paddle is a great option for a variety of players, but it is especially well-suited for rising beginners and early intermediate players who are looking to improve their control and spin game. Here’s a breakdown of who might find this paddle a good fit:
Features
- Raw carbon fiber face: This material provides a good balance of power and control and helps generate spin on your shots.
- 16mm polypropylene honeycomb core: This core is thicker than the core in the Pro Series 13, which gives you more control over your shots. However, it is still thin enough to provide you with some power.
- Large sweet spot: The sweet spot is the area on the paddle face where you hit the ball for the most power and control. The Pro Series 16 has a large sweet spot, which makes it forgiving on off-center hits.
- Edge foam injection: This helps to reduce vibration and arm fatigue, and it also improves the paddle’s stability.
- Thermoformed unibody construction: This construction method makes the paddle more durable and helps to prevent it from warping or cracking.
- Gritty Toray T700 face: This texture helps to grip the ball and generate spin.
- Wide, lightweight design: This design makes the paddle easy to maneuver and swing.
- Extra-long handle: This is great for players who like to hit two-handed backhands.
- USA Pickleball approved: This means that the paddle meets the specifications set by the governing body of pickleball in the United States.
Design and feel
The PCKL Pro Series 16 pickleball paddle features a sleek and modern design with a black and gray color scheme. The paddle has a wide, lightweight design that makes it easy to maneuver and swing, and the extra-long handle is great for players who like to hit two-handed backhands.
PCKL has once again impressed with its design choices. The combination of a lime green edge guard and a white handle on this paddle creates a striking contrast against its classic jet-black carbon appearance.
When it comes to materials, this paddle feels premium, standing shoulder to shoulder with the top raw carbon paddles I’ve tested in 2023. Playing with it is a pleasure; it offers exceptional comfort, and its weight distribution contributes to its excellent performance on the court.
Performance
The PCKL Pro Series 16 feels like the best all-court paddle in my opinion. Its power, control, and spin are all well-balanced.
Its 16 mm core—typically seen in “control” paddles—made it remarkably strong, in my opinion. I could easily and reliably send putaways and hard drives. In addition, my touch game was very strong; I could execute drop shots with ease, regardless of how difficult they were technically with topspin or not. This paddle’s spin performance is on par with some of the finest available raw carbon fiber paddles.
Its extended design may make it a little slow in the kitchen, but generally, the paddle is quite agile due to its superb weight distribution.
Valve for money
In my opinion, the PCKL Pro Series 16 offers excellent value for its price point. While there may be other paddles in a similar price range that excel in specific areas like spin, power, or control, the Pro Series 16 delivers solid all-court performance for just $160.
If you’re in the market for an upgraded paddle and want something that provides a well-rounded performance without spending too much, this is definitely my top recommendation for you.
If you’re a 3.0-4.0 player looking for a versatile paddle that excels in both power and finesse, the PCKL Pro Series 16 is definitely worth a try. Its premium build, excellent spin, and well-rounded performance make it a strong contender in the all-court battleground.

Features
The first thing you grip with the Selkirk Air paddles isn’t just a handle, it’s a revolution. The innovative “Air Dynamic Throat” isn’t just a fancy term, it’s a wind tunnel for your swing, propelling you to faster shots with effortless ease.

Selkirk isn’t shy about using unique terms like “Florek” carbon fiber. Don’t get lost in the jargon, though. This stuff delivers just like the popular T700 carbon, packing power and spin into every swing.
One small concern: the face’s grip comes from painted-on grit, not an inherent texture. While it performs well initially, long-term durability might be a question mark.

Design and feel
Design:
In my review, I find the design of the Flash 16MM paddle to be impressive. Its sleek, aerodynamic profile, combined with the hybrid shape, allows for optimal weight distribution and a larger sweet spot. The carbon fiber edge guard not only enhances durability but also contributes to continuous dynamic tension, setting a new standard in paddle design.
Feel:
I find the feel of the Flash paddle to be exceptional. The raw heat-textured TORAY T700 carbon fiber surface offers unparalleled grip and spin control, allowing for precise shot shaping. Additionally, the lightweight construction and foam inject walls provide a comfortable and responsive feel, enabling players to play with confidence and finesse.
Performance
According to me, the performance of the Flash 16MM paddle is outstanding. This paddle surprised me with its softness, making it the softest thermoformed paddle I’ve ever used. While it lacked the raw power of paddles like the Bread & Butter Filth, I found its control to be exceptional. The soft-touch greatly improved my finesse shots, particularly with consistent execution of tricky 3rd shot drops.
What really caught me off guard was its spin potential. Despite its affordable price tag, the Vatic Pro Flash proved to be on par with top spin paddles like the CRBN-3X and Diadem Edge 18k. I was able to generate an impressive topspin, causing the ball to dip at my opponents’ feet—an unexpected advantage that added depth to my game.

the Vatic Pro Flash offers exceptional value for money. It delivers impressive performance, utilizes quality materials, and comes at a significantly lower price point than many comparable paddles. However, keep in mind your playing style and preferences to ensure it’s the right fit for you.
Overall, the Vatic Pro Flash is a compelling choice for players seeking a high-performance paddle without breaking the bank. Its balanced capabilities, quality build, and exceptional value make it a strong contender in the market. However, if raw power is your top priority, or you prefer a heavier feel, exploring other options might be advisable.
