Anna Leigh Waters clinched her 41st career PPA singles title on Sunday at Life Time Peachtree Corners, dominating No. 7 seed Parris Todd with a decisive 11-1, 11-6 victory.
Todd entered the final with significant momentum after defeating Kate Fahey, Mary Brascia, and Lea Jansen in succession. However, Waters, the top seed, halted Todd’s impressive run with a commanding performance.
This was the second time this year that Waters and Todd squared off for a title in Atlanta, having previously met in the final of the Atlanta Open in May. In that encounter, Waters took the win in three games after Todd came back from a 10-7 deficit in Game 2 to force a deciding game, where Waters ultimately prevailed.
Waters, aware of Todd’s tenacity, made sure not to let up this time. “Parris is an opponent you can never count out,” Waters said. “She fights for everything, and she was down to Kate and came back, so I knew I couldn’t let up even when I had the lead.”
On Sunday, Waters will continue her pursuit of a 29th career Triple Crown on the PPA Tour, with matches in women’s doubles alongside Catherine Parenteau and mixed doubles with Ben Johns.
In the bronze medal match, Lea Jansen triumphed over Brooke Buckner with scores of 11-7, 9-11, 11-5.
