5s survive against Drive in DreamBreaker

New Jersey 5s Dominate in DreamBreaker Victory at MLP Mid-Season Tournament

The New Jersey 5s punched their ticket to the semifinals of the MLP Mid-Season Tournament in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with a convincing Dream Breaker win over the Arizona Drive.

Despite a long layoff since their last match in Atlanta back in May, the 5s, featuring Anna Leigh Waters, Zane Navratil, Will Howells, and Mari Humberg, displayed no signs of rust. They secured early control by winning both opening gender doubles matches.

However, the Arizona Drive wouldn’t go down without a fight. Lacy Schneemann and AJ Koller, along with Kaitlyn Christian and Dylan Frazier, clawed their way back with victories in both mixed doubles contests, forcing the match into a thrilling DreamBreaker decider.

But the momentum shifted decisively in New Jersey’s favor. Both Howells and Waters delivered dominant performances in the singles rotations, defeating Koller and Schneemann 7-1 each, to secure a commanding 21-9 victory for the No. 3 seeded team.

This win marks the fourth victory of the season for New Jersey, and remarkably, each one has come by way of a DreamBreaker! Talk about living on the edge. The 5s will now face a tough challenge against the Dallas Flash in the semifinals on Saturday. Can they continue their clutch performances and reach the finals?
